Late-night hosts ignore and downplay Biden’s ‘garbage’ insult of Trump supporters after panning Puerto Rico joke

The liberal late-night hosts downplayed or completely avoided President Biden’s controversial “trash” comment about Trump supporters after filtering the controversial joke from Puerto Rico that made news of former President Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.

On Mondays there is the host of “Late Show”. Stephen Colbert hyped the “huge consequences” of insult comedian Tony Hinchliffe’s joke, which called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” in reference to the “470,000” Puerto Rican voters living in Pennsylvania.

“And you’re not going to win over half a million people by insulting their homeland,” Colbert exclaimed.

On Tuesday night, Colbert boasted about the consequences of the joke by reading several negative headlines that affected the Trump campaign.

“Here’s a little pro tip: If you’re running for president, make sure there are no surprises come October,” Colbert joked. “It’s rare that you tell a joke so bad that it changes the course of human history.”

Colbert then slammed Trump for not taking any responsibility for Hinchcliffe’s joke.

However, the topic of “garbage” was ignored in Colbert’s monologue on Wednesday, which instead focused on Vice President Kamala HarrisThe size of the crowd at her Ellipse rally, which was touted to be a bigger crowd than Trump when he gave his Jan. 6 speech at the same venue.

ABCs Jimmy Kimmel called the rally at Madison Square Garden “nasty,” “hateful” and “racist” and told his audience that “it got Puerto Ricans so angry that Bad Bunny had to get involved.”

“Trump has made such a mess of Puerto Ricans that they are now throwing paper towels at him,” Kimmel joked Monday night.

But on Wednesday evening, instead of targeting Biden, he ridiculed Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who he said was “frantically” briefing Trump on Biden’s “garbage” comment during Tuesday’s rally in Allentown, Penn.

“Oh my stars! What kind of language is that to use?!” Kimmel responded dramatically after playing Rubio’s clip, referencing the “Despicable Me” film series. “He’s like an excited little minion bringing big news to Gru.”

The “Jimmy Kimmel Live” host went on to say he didn’t blame the Trump campaign for “jumping over this bullshit stuff,” admitting it was “not a smart thing to say.”

“Joe Biden should drop out of this race immediately,” Kimmel joked before going on to mock Trump’s garbage truck campaign stunt.

Notably, Colbert and Kimmel are hosting mega fundraisers for Biden before he dropped out of the 2024 race.

Meanwhile, “Late Night” host Seth Meyers, after blasting Trump on Monday over the Puerto Rico gaffe, took a brief swipe at Biden on Wednesday night but spent more time analyzing Trump’s attempts to distance himself from the joke.

“While denouncing racist comments at former President Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, President Biden appeared to call Trump supporters ‘trash.’ What he meant to say was clear NothingMeyers jokingly tensed. ‘Why are you saying anything?! Have you forgotten that you’re so bad at saying things that we had to go get someone else?!”

Meyers also joked about the transcript of Biden’s remarks released by the White House, saying “we have to decipher it all like reading hieroglyphs backwards through a jeweler’s loupe.”

Biden sought to clarify his comments, which were made during a virtual Harris campaign call with Voto Latino.

“Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump’s supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as nonsense — and that’s the only word I can think of to describe it,” Biden wrote on X .’His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That’s all I wanted to say. The comments made at that meeting do not reflect who we are as a nation.
