FC: How would you describe the look and feel of the hotel?

HT: The universe is warm and colorful. Indeed, I wanted an aesthetic with eclectic styles in a coherent whole. The place starts with the garden, located on an area of several hectares, where there are several buildings with different functions. My goal was to create a unique place. Everything is almost custom, from the patterns I personally designed to the furniture. The headboards feature woodwork, which contrasts with colored, limed walls for a sunny touch. The references are Mediterranean, mixed with Californian influences. Indeed, high above Mougins and the old village, the property offers commanding views of Grasse, reminiscent of a Hollywood hillside villa. All lighting is designed to create a warm atmosphere, using materials such as ceramics, marble and natural fibers.

FC: How did you maintain the charm of the hotel while modernizing it?

HT: We respected this sleeping beauty. It was a place with enormous potential, but it lacked cohesion. That’s why I created new circulation and new volumes, such as the Clarins Spa, a new building with a 25-meter semi-covered swimming pool that can be used in both winter and summer. There was also a green ceramic fireplace in the bar. Everything was destroyed except this element, which served as the basis for a creation around green, with ceramic frames in the same color, plus green fibers, textiles and custom-made furniture.

FC: Tell us about the color palette throughout the property?

HT: Colors are sunny and warm, accentuated by textures. The walls are filled with Provencal yellow and pink tones, accentuated by dark oak and graphic stones such as the pink marble in the bathrooms, which add a touch of freshness. The hotel is also littered with white woodwork. The garden also provides color and the relationship between inside and outside is essential.

FC: What are your favorite design aspects of the hotel?

HT: I enjoyed designing furniture pieces that made a nod to the past but at the same time brought them up to date, with imposing headboards and tailor-made fabrics, to create a unique space. Common areas are also important; I love the library or the cigar room with its unique carpeting, combining custom and antique furniture. Furthermore, the restaurant’s pool house, with its yellow fabric-covered walls, was designed by me and features a Mediterranean motif mixed with a more psychedelic aspect, inspired by my grandparents’ house in the south of France. What I really appreciate is this diversity of references, which creates a chic and inspiring patchwork of stories.
