Packers are battling injuries with several starters missing practice

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WSAW) – The Packers had seven starters miss Wednesday’s practice due to injury, including both Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs. It’s not an ideal start to a week that culminates in a major league battle against the Detroit Lions.

With Love out, backup Malik Willis stepped in again for the first-team replays. He remains calm and confident, as per the norm.

“Just taking it day by day, whatever they want to put off,” Willis says. “Just get me locked up and deal with it the best I can. Make sure I go home and study, watching what they see. What they think the expectation of the piece should be and just understanding the outcome they want.

Jacobs is struggling with an ankle injury, but he remains optimistic and still has more than a week to go to recuperate.

“Later in the season you get guys a day or two to get their bodies right so they can play at the highest level on game day,” Jacobs says. “So I just manage my body, man. I’ll be good when it’s time to play.”

The o-line is the most torn unit. Three starters were out today: Josh Myers, Rasheed Walker and Elgton Jenkins. The rest of the o-line does its best to roll with the punches.

“It’s like, ‘OK, well, it’s going to be one of those days’ where guys are going to have to play a different position, more reps than normal,” Packers guard Sean Rhyan said. “But it is training. It’s not like the game will be like that.”

There were no Jaire Alexander or Evan Williams on defense. However, Matt LaFleur still has a lot of confidence in the depth of that unit regardless of who is available.

“I think we want to rotate all those guys,” LaFleur said. “And I really think that’s a position, the corner position and the safety position, where we have a fair amount of depth.”

Knowing it’s a game for the division leader, there’s all the more incentive to get healthy and get back on the field.

The Lions also have their fair share of injuries, including their quarterback Jared Goff missing practice with a rolled ankle.
