One dead after crash involving shots, FMPD says

Two lanes were blocked due to the incident.

One person died after a collision involving a shooting, Fort Myers police announced Sunday evening just before 7 p.m.

On Sunday around 8:30 p.m., Fort Myers police said the incident blocked two westbound lanes of Colonial Boulevard at Ortiz Avenue.

Detectives are seeking public assistance in locating a 2004 Saturn SUV with the Florida tag “CE50MX.”

Police said in a news release on their Facebook page that the SUV is matte or flat black with clear decals on the driver and rear passenger sides. The vehicle has distinctive wheels, a tow bar with ball and damage to the rear bumper.

Officer Kristin Capuzzi, spokesperson for the Fort Myers Police Department, confirmed it was the city’s seventh homicide this year.

Police said it is an isolated incident and encourage witnesses to contact them at 239-321-7700 or SWFL Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).

They also encourage anyone who comes across the SUV in question not to approach it.
