A report of an armed person at the Grand Forks County Office Building determined it was a false alarm

Oct. 29—GRAND FORKS — A reportedly armed person at the Grand Forks County Office Building on Tuesday, Oct. 29 did not actually have a firearm, according to law enforcement.

The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office received a call that someone was on the fourth floor of the building with a gun, according to a news release issued Tuesday afternoon. Several deputies responded and the incident was approached the same as an active shooter response, due to the limited information available at the time.

Law enforcement contacted the reported subject and determined he did not have a firearm. Instead, he was allegedly in possession of a device similar to electric shock, but had already placed it in his car before police were contacted, the release said.

After confirming there was no threat to the public or the facility, the county office building resumed normal operations, according to the release.

The suspect was removed from the property without incident, the release said.

Local, state and federal agencies assisted the sheriff’s office.
